Social Media vs. Therapy: The Risks and Limitations of Seeking Emotional Support Online

However, seeking emotional support from social media is a dangerous trend that is becoming increasingly common. While it may seem like a convenient and cost-effective option, it's essential to understand the risks and limitations of seeking mental health support on social media.

It is important to recognise that social media is not a substitute for therapy. While it can be helpful in providing information and resources, it is not the best place to go to get your mental health needs met. Social media platforms are designed for entertainment, and the content available is not always reliable, accurate, or true.

In recent years, there has been an influx of "coaches" on social media, offering advice on mental health and well-being. However, some of these coaches are neither mental health professionals nor well-practiced in healthcare. Many have no relevant qualification in their field, and their advice may be misleading or even harmful.
